There are patches of chalky, white powder along my concrete
basement walls. What causes this? Is it dangerous or harmless?
|
|
This harmless, white powdery substance is the salty
byproduct of a chemical reaction between water and the ingredients in your
concrete walls. The technical name for this powder is efflorescence. It
indicates that there is seasonal dampness affecting your foundation walls.
Efflorescence is a sign that you should be taking measures to control the
surface water outside your foundation walls.
